Ergonomically Correct
There are many desk workers who don't realize the vast importance of ergonomics. An ergonomically correct workstation helps increase productivity by maximizing worker comfort. Not only that, but it decreases the likelihood of work related injury because the body is ideally positioned and supported. There are all kinds of office chairs, desks and other items made to be ergonomic, so upgrading your workstation should be fairly simple and affordable. You can find ergonomic products at all kinds of stores including Wal-Mart, Target, Staples and Office Depot.
When shopping for a desk make sure it is made for the purpose you are using it for. Let's say you work at home. While you can set up your computer at the kitchen table and use any chair to sit in this could result in damaging injury to your body or at the least an uncomfortable work day. The desk you choose should be made for a computer, and if it says ergonomic that is even better. Chairs are even more important when it comes to proper posture. When choosing a chair, ergonomic comfort and design should be your first priority.
There are all kinds of chairs made for computer workers. First is the traditional office chair, which usually features a padded seat and back with wheels and adjustable height. Many chairs these days come with lumbar support. If they don't, there are pads and cushions that can be used which are made especially for this purpose. To go with your chair you might require footrests, which are usually slanted for better circulation in the feet. Make sure your chair is at the proper height, one where your feet are flat on the floor or your footrests and your keyboard is at waist level. There are also kneeling chairs, which provide support for your knees and are designed a bit differently from what you're probably used to.
At stores today you will also find ergonomically correct mouse pads, wrist pads and even keyboards. These items can make your workstation even more comfortable. The ergonomic keyboards may look a bit funny as they are slanted and curved, but they do help prevent typing injuries like repetitive stress and carpal tunnel problems. Another thing you should know, even if your workstation is totally ergonomic, is that taking regular breaks to move around, stand up and stretch is one of the most important things you can do for your body and health.
